Note

Tools are not taste

A short sample note on the difference between a good stack and a point of view.

Example content. Sample note. Delete this file when you publish.

A new editor, a new model, a new framework: none of these will decide whether a page is worth reading. Tools change the cost of producing text. They do not supply a standard for what should be kept.

Taste is closer to editing. It is the habit of cutting the sentence that only exists because it was easy to generate. It is knowing when a chart is doing work and when it is dressing. It is the willingness to publish fewer things.

I like good tools. I try not to confuse them with a point of view.
